And You’re Here…Why?

July 30, 2010

So, I’ve been looking at the stats of my blog in some more detail lately, and I’ve noticed a sorta weird trend – more than 1/2 (sometimes even as much as 2/3) of my daily hits come from home-page visits….yet, only a few people each day are visiting Grooveshark for my playlists. Why are you here? Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the traffic. I’m just curious. Leave some comments!

Today’s playlist is made up of some oldish hits – with the exception of Frankly, Mr. Shankly and Watching the Detectives. Those are just great songs. Also, does anyone else find it sad that all these “old” songs get grouped together, as if they were homogenous? I sure hope Eminem and Chris Brown are never considered equal.

Here’s Today’s Playlist

  1. Frankly, Mr. Shankly by The Smiths
  2. Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys
  3. Jack and Diane by John Mellencamp
  4. American Girl by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
  5. Born in the U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
  6. Eight Days a Week by The Beatles
  7. Rebel Rebel by David Bowie
  8. Rock the Casbah by The Clash
  9. Watching the Detectives by Elvis Costello
  10. People are Strange by The Doors

A Little Wisdom

July 26, 2010

I have nothing to say today but this –

Much Madness is divinest sense-

To a discerning eye-

Much Sense-the starkest Madness-

In this, as All, prevail-

Assent-and you are sane-

Demur-You’re straightway dangerous-

And handled with a chain-

-Emily Dickinson, 435

Chill(y)

July 12, 2010

I’ve returned from the little rock I inhabited for the last week. Namely, Oahu, which was a party more or less the entire time, mostly thanks to my cousin. That was the fastest week of my life – I barely even had time to make my skin tan enough to not be blinding!

Now I’m back in overcast Seattle, basking in the balmy mid-50’s. Normally, I couldn’t care less, but it’s summer and I just left mid 80’s weather. If I could capitalize numbers, that 80 would be capitalized.

I’ve got a nice chill, semi-poppy, soft rock playlist for today (or tonight, rather). Many of you are probably more familiar with Nirvana’s cover of song 10 – I assure you, the original is just as good.

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. Mad World by Gary Jules
  2. Only Ones Who Know by Arctic Monkeys
  3. Anyone Else But You by The Moldy Peaches
  4. Oscar Wilde by Company of Thieves
  5. The Long List of Girls by The Blow

Summers Past

July 3, 2010

Those of you who live in Seattle and listen to 107.7 The End (or rather, listened to it two summers ago) will most likely recognize the songs on today’s playlist as the staples of their playlist two summers ago. I listen to these songs on occasion and they always bring back memories, so I figured I might as well put ’em all together and bring ya back.

Also, I’ll be leaving for Hawaii tomorrow – I’ll post if I have time, but I most likely won’t. So, farewell until the 12th. Have a happy 4th!

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. The Pretender by The Foo Fighters

Lowering the Bar

July 1, 2010

No, I have not forgotten about you, dear readers. I was on a two day trip to Idaho with no chance to post, but my deficiency in that arena consumed my thoughts every waking moment. Well, maybe not, but I did feel a tiny twinge of guilt. I will doubtless feel much more so on my upcoming trip to Hawaii – I’ll be gone from the 4th till the 11th.

My iTunes library has reached such a volume (34 days of music…well, of audio. Two days of that is most likely audiobooks) that I’ve been forced to pursue my old strategy and convert all music to 64 kbs mono (same quality as 128 kbs stereo, which is pretty standard, except there’s only one audio channel) to save space. I’ve already filled 500 gb and 120 gb external HDDs with…stuff, mostly movies, TV Shows, and video games. I’d almost ran out of space on my 320 internal HDD, but converting my music will save me about 25 gbs.

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. Gimme That Punk by Audio Bullys
  2. Animal by Neon Trees
  3. The Other Side by Kele
  4. Dance Hall Drug by Boys Like Girls
  5. The Perfect Mistake by Cartel
  6. Kids In Love by Mayday Parade

Apathy

June 27, 2010

Yes, it’s happened. The reality of summer has sunk in and I’ve been stricken with my usual plague of apathy (not undeservedly, either). This unfortunately means that I am apt to forget to post. Horrible, I know. In my brief absence, absolutely nothing of note has occurred though, so no harm done. I hope I can make it up to y’all with a solid playlist today.
