Chill(y)

July 12, 2010

I’ve returned from the little rock I inhabited for the last week. Namely, Oahu, which was a party more or less the entire time, mostly thanks to my cousin. That was the fastest week of my life – I barely even had time to make my skin tan enough to not be blinding!

Now I’m back in overcast Seattle, basking in the balmy mid-50’s. Normally, I couldn’t care less, but it’s summer and I just left mid 80’s weather. If I could capitalize numbers, that 80 would be capitalized.

I’ve got a nice chill, semi-poppy, soft rock playlist for today (or tonight, rather). Many of you are probably more familiar with Nirvana’s cover of song 10 – I assure you, the original is just as good.

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. Mad World by Gary Jules
  2. Only Ones Who Know by Arctic Monkeys
  3. Anyone Else But You by The Moldy Peaches
  4. Oscar Wilde by Company of Thieves
  5. The Long List of Girls by The Blow
  6. 1234 by Feist
  7. Summer Skin by Death Cab For Cutie
  8. Easy Tonight by Five For Fighting
  9. Candle in the Wind by Elton John

Summers Past

July 3, 2010

Those of you who live in Seattle and listen to 107.7 The End (or rather, listened to it two summers ago) will most likely recognize the songs on today’s playlist as the staples of their playlist two summers ago. I listen to these songs on occasion and they always bring back memories, so I figured I might as well put ’em all together and bring ya back.

Also, I’ll be leaving for Hawaii tomorrow – I’ll post if I have time, but I most likely won’t. So, farewell until the 12th. Have a happy 4th!

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. The Pretender by The Foo Fighters

Lowering the Bar

July 1, 2010

No, I have not forgotten about you, dear readers. I was on a two day trip to Idaho with no chance to post, but my deficiency in that arena consumed my thoughts every waking moment. Well, maybe not, but I did feel a tiny twinge of guilt. I will doubtless feel much more so on my upcoming trip to Hawaii – I’ll be gone from the 4th till the 11th.

My iTunes library has reached such a volume (34 days of music…well, of audio. Two days of that is most likely audiobooks) that I’ve been forced to pursue my old strategy and convert all music to 64 kbs mono (same quality as 128 kbs stereo, which is pretty standard, except there’s only one audio channel) to save space. I’ve already filled 500 gb and 120 gb external HDDs with…stuff, mostly movies, TV Shows, and video games. I’d almost ran out of space on my 320 internal HDD, but converting my music will save me about 25 gbs.

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. Gimme That Punk by Audio Bullys
  2. Animal by Neon Trees
  3. The Other Side by Kele
  4. Dance Hall Drug by Boys Like Girls
  5. The Perfect Mistake by Cartel
  6. Kids In Love by Mayday Parade
  7. Lost in Stereo by All Time Low
  8. Tiffany Blews by Fall Out Boy
  9. All Around Me by Flyleaf
  10. Ghost Town by Shiny Toy Guns

Apathy

June 27, 2010

Yes, it’s happened. The reality of summer has sunk in and I’ve been stricken with my usual plague of apathy (not undeservedly, either). This unfortunately means that I am apt to forget to post. Horrible, I know.┬áIn my brief absence, absolutely nothing of note has occurred though, so no harm done. I hope I can make it up to y’all with a solid playlist today.

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. Half-Truism by The Offspring
  2. Angels With Dirty Faces by Sum 41
  3. Burn by Three Days Grace

Still a Kid

June 24, 2010

Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday – I had a little trouble with the public transit system that put a little bit of a damper on my day, so I didn’t get home ’til late and I didn’t have much energy.

After a few listens through Travie McCoy’s new solo album (you may also know him from Gym Class Heroes), I’ve managed to get a good enough hold on the songs to include one in today’s playlist, which is softcore hip-hop/hip-pop. The 1st track is from his new album Lazarus, released on June 8th.

I’ve discovered a new site – Tetrisfriends.com. I was referred by one of Kotaku’s recent posts, and it’s just what I’ve been looking for (I’ve been searching for a decent set of online tetris games). There’s some metagaming, multiplayer, various challenges, chat, friends – the works. Sign up for an account here (I get some extra tokens if you use my referral link…you know how it is).

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. Akidagain by Travie McCoy
  2. Top of the World by Ace Hood
  3. Shoot Down the Star by Gym Class Heroes
  4. Fireworks by Drake feat. Alicia Keys
  5. Feel Like Home by Fort Minor
  6. Mayday!!! by Flobots
  7. Fire for the People by Blue Scholars
  8. Road to the Riches by Atmosphere feat. Cuts by DJ Plain Ol’ Bill
  9. Marching Orders by Heiruspecs
  10. The Preacher by Brother Ali
