A Tornado has Struck

July 23, 2010

Well, no. But there is going to be some more delay before I have a new playlist on grooveshark. The keystone song for my new playlist (Girls and Fast Cars by Fresh Espresso) is sadly missing from its extensive library, so we must await for my upload to be registered (there’s a latency period of up to 24 hours). EDIT – Volcano by Anti-Pop Consortium and We’re Always on the Wrong Side of Sunrise by Head Like a Kite were also sadly absent.

BUT! I do have too pieces of good news –

Firstly, in my absence, I have acquired a glut (I love that word) of new music – nearly 900 new songs, in fact.

Secondly, and this is the true excitement, I’m in the process of creating a system of smart playlists in iTunes that cycles through my music based on how well I know it, creating a fluid 15 song playlist. This playlist features 1 song I know by heart, 2 I know well, 3 I merely “Know”, 4 I sorta know, and 5 I don’t know. Songs are switched between categories based on plays, though I still have to categorize all songs at the onset (I’ve done 61 of 940 or so albums so far), and no song played in the last day will be featured. This, friends and readers, will be REVOLUTIONARY. Well, no, not really, but for me it will be. I’ll make a flow chart (not quite, actually, but similar) in Illustrator and post it sometime next week.

Here’s today’s playlist-

  1. Say Hey There by Atmosphere
  2. Unstoppable by Drake
  3. Still Got Love by Blue Scholars
  4. Stressin’ by Ace Hood (Feat. Plies)
  5. Girls and Fast Cars by Fresh Espresso
  6. Follow Us by Big Boi (Feat. Vonnegut)
  7. Champion by Kanye West
  8. Volcano by Anti-Pop Consortium
  9. We’re Always on the Wrong Side of Sunrise by Head Like a Kite
  10. Spraypaint and Ink Pens by Fort Minor (Feat. Ghostface and Lupe Fiasco)

What a Drag

June 20, 2010

Yet another rainy, grey summer day in Seattle. On the bright side, I’ve discovered an upgrade-worthy feature in iTunes 9.2! You can now drag to select – you know, like that feature that’s been in every other major program and game for the past 5 years? Apple finally caught on.

Another cheering fact – I saw Toy Story 3 yesterday, and it was just fantastic. Easily up to the standards of the first two. My favorite new toy – a Totoro plushy. I’m a Miyazaki fan.

Today’s playlist is based around a song requested by a dear friend of mine. The song is More of You by MoZella; unfortunately, the vast majority of songs I have that fit well are by fairly popular artists, but whatever. Still sounds nice. Oh, also, the Sarah McLachlan song is form her new record, Laws of Illusion. I’ve only skimmed it, but I liked what I heard.

Here’s today’s playlist –

Unfortunately, right now Grooveshark is being uncooperative. I’ll have a link up later.

  1. Right as Rain by Adele
  2. More of You by MoZella
  3. Hotel Song by Regina Spektor
  4. My Moon, My Man by Feist
  5. 100 Round the Bends by Missy Higgins
  6. Loving You by Sarah McLachlan
  7. Waiting by Norah Jones
  8. Queen of the World by Ida Maria
  9. I Don’t Want to Wait by Paula Cole
  10. I Met Up With a King by First Aid Kit

My friend also reminded me of a question I’ve been wondering about for a while. She’s a music-savvy enough person that she can simply look at my playlists and know about 90% of the songs, so she doesn’t really listen to ’em. How many of you listen to them?

June 19, 2010

My apologies for the lack of posts the last two days – my computer had been confiscated by a certain person, who will remain nameless at this time. Whilst I was gone, iTunes 9.2 was released! For those of you yet to upgrade, here’s a rundown of the changes (that I’ve noticed) –

  1. The bar for Genre/Album/Artist/Composer and the sizing slider has returned! (Thank god…)
  2. You can now apparently not make album artwork minimized. (Boooooo)
  3. The playlist maker is…trickier, in turns of drag and drop. (Boooooooooooo)
  4. A few GUI design changes (Neutral…)

Overall – 9.1 and 9.2 are really about the same; if you feel like upgrading go for it, otherwise, don’t bother.

Here’s Today’s Playlist

  1. Family Reunion by Saliva
  2. Heart-Shaped Glasses by Marilyn Manson
  3. Are We The Waiting by Green Day
  4. Polyamorous by Breaking Benjamin
  5. I Don’t Care by Apocalyptica
  6. Black Masks and Gasoline by Rise Against
  7. Full Circle by Drowning Pool
  8. Helena by My Chemical Romance
  9. Don’t Tread On Me by Metallica
  10. Last Letter by One Day As a Lion

Hello, Oblivion

June 13, 2010

And I mean oblivion as in blissful oblivion. And by that I mean SUMMER. HELL YES. Only two finals to go…

I managed to download about 40 albums yesterday, mostly classic rock and 80s metal, which I found my iTunes sadly deficient in. I also got a really interesting album of classical (which I’m usually not a fan of) by Olafur Arnalds. A few songs have some rock elements, and it’s all just very surreal. Check it out!

I’ve got a softer Hip-Hop playlist for today, which starts off slow soft and ends upbeat soft. Enjoy!

Here’s today’s playlist

  1. Between the Lines by Atmosphere
  2. Stand Up by The Flobots
  3. Cigarettes by Fort Minor
  4. Hello/Goodbye (Uncool) by Lupe Fiasco (feat. UNKLE)
  5. 25 to Life by Eminem
  6. One (Remix) by Immortal Technique (Feat. Akir)
  7. Welcome by J. Cole
  8. Strong Will Continue by Nas and Damian Marley
  9. Izzo (H.O.V.A) by Jay-Z
  10. Hey Ya! by Outkast

Some new apps today. We got a new Skype, new Filezilla, and new Firefox! Haven’t been any good ones in a while, so it’s nice to get some updates. Just check out Filehippo for the updates.

The Billion App Countodown is coming to a close. The rules are quite confusing, but as far as I can tell, the billionth app DLed wins. You would win a MacBook Pro, a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, a 1TB Time Capsule, and a 32 GB iPod Touch. Hope I win!

cgi-abstract-5553Well, my blogging-vacation is over (thankfully, I still have Monday and Tuesday off from school, though). During the respite, I took a roadtrip to Death Valley- and got some beautiful pics, 10 of which I will be fine-tuning and posting Monday-Friday of next week (2 per day).  My cold, unfortunately, persists, but my immune system has reduced it to a runny nose and the occasional cough.

While I was gone (things always happen when I’m gone!) a new beta (2, actually, but I’m only trying the most recent) came out, along with a new version of iTunes (that’s 8.1.1, folks). Honestly, I don’t see anything new with either of these, but I feel updated (updates are my drug of choice), so what the heck. I didn’t do any benchmarks, so I’m probably missing something. Or they could just be bug-fixes.

abstract-green-16502Well, I’m home sick today with a killer cold (sore throat, fever, runny nose, headache, dizzyness) so I should hypothetically be able to get a ton of homework done. Right? No, actually my work ethic sucks if I’m not interested in the work, so I really haven’t made any progress over the last couple hours. Fortunately though, I have made sme progress in the program department. iTunes and VLC 0.9.9 both came out today, along with some other nice apps (a new NOD32 and Alcohol 120%). I of course downloaded them immediately. Seems like the Store is faster for the new iTunes…or maybe my ‘net is just being cooperative for once.
